about town

here's violet this morning watching my pour-over coffee being made at intelligentsia, and nailing the look of cool indifference shared by barista and customer alike. she may not have a quirky hat, but she definitely has a who-gives-a-shit haircut (or at least the appearance of one, given that she's had no haircut). it's pretty clear that neither a mom dressed in business casual from the banana republic clearance rack, nor a baby with a wardrobe upwards of fifty percent pink, embody the typical clientele at sunset junction, but o m g is the coffee good. it's probably all in my head, but it really tastes better there than it does when served at other places across town - not that i don't still enjoy it elsewhere.

in fact, i was craving a cup on saturday morning, so we went near home to olive & thyme ("proudly serving intelligentsia") so that i could have one, and we could share eggs & muffin for breakfast. said breakfast lasted around twenty minutes, and our visit out front with the pig

lasted more like thirty. in her not so many words, violet asked me to take her picture with the pig, and when i'd put away my phone, she'd want me to take it out again so that she could pose for more pictures. i'd instruct her to get closer to the pig, and she'd tentatively sidestep towards him while giving him an adoring look. she did not want to leave that pig.

in other cuteness, violet met jack for an afternoon rendezvous at the park. you should have seen lisa and i scrambling to get this pic.

being the photo talent that she is, lisa also managed to spy violet and i taking a ride on the train i call the $6 express (or the $9 express when dada is with us) across the crowded sunday farmer's market, and she ran over and snapped this one.

violet also enjoyed some good celebrity sightings this weekend. some usuals (jon cryer & family; ben lee & family) and some novelties (sofia coppola & family; johnny knoxville & family). you know you've been valleyfied when all of your weekend sightings have the "& family" tag. it's a wonder violet's first word wasn't "like." or "biebs." who by the way kevin saw last week dropping in, as all valley teens do, for some sushi... and followed, like no other teen in the world, by 60+ paparazzi.

"these photos are gonna cost you!"

  1. good job getting the pic of jack and v! i got a couple but i was so freaked out that he was going to topple over that most of them are blurry.

happy to hear that violet is on the lookout for celebrities already. last week jack attracted the attention of jason bateman and i was very proud of him. :)
